John S. Ridout (1926 - 2003)
Was a pioneer of library service in East York and Toronto, serving on the East York Public Library Board, was Board of Director from 1970 - 1991 and Chair for 5 of those years of the Toronto Reference Library (then known as Toronto Metropolitan Library). Mr. Ridout was also Founder and President of East York Historical Society from 1980 to 2003. Mr. Ridout also served as a City Alderman in the 1970s ("Aldermen are now called Councillors). |
Both Mr. Stewart and Mr. Ridout were giants, stalwarts in their communities; collaborators, colleagues and friends who worked tirelessly and committedly to the shared purpose of serving and building East York, East Yorkers and Toronto.
